Live Projects

Live Projects is an activity that sees Masters students from the University of Sheffield's School of Architecture work with community clients in real time with real budgets, on socially-engaged projects.

With our project partner Live Works (which leads the Live Projects programme at the University of Sheffield), we have supported MArch students  to undertake research and design engagement activities with a number of community groups involved in a project to transform their historic place of worship.

Groups that have been supported by Sheffield School of Architecture MArch students include:
  • St. Peter's Church, Congleton
  • St Peter's Church, Chester
  • ISRAAC Somali Community & Cultural Association, Sheffield
  • Cemetery Road Baptist Church, Sheffield
  • St Michael's with St Lawrence Church, Byker

We have also helped to establish a similar Live Project initiative between Masters students from University College London's Bartlett School of Planning and Bow Church, London. In this instance, students undertook a community audit to help the church better understand local assets, services and networks through a variety of activities.

Live Projects Design Studio
In May 2018 we brought together over 20 people who have been involved in community-engaged student projects including students, academics and community group members from Cardiff, Nottingham, Sheffield and London. The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to share experiences of their projects and the challenges and benefits they presented. We also explored new ideas and opportunities to create beneficial outcomes for community clients, practitioners, students and academics.
