Developing tools and approaches for community-led design
A core focus of our project is the co-design of tools and approaches to support groups leading design projects in historic places of worship in order to make them more open, accessible and sustainable, and to engage their communities in these processes. Drawing on a variety of design and creative research methods we are exploring how inclusive design processes can support a diverse spectrum of people, organisations and places.
This work builds on several years of collaboration between project partners the Open University (Design Group) and The Glass-House Community Led Design and on the work of all project partners in supporting communities. Together, we are developing new tools and approaches and building on existing methodologies developed both by project partners and others.
We also want to build the capacity of those who are working collaboratively to support the transformation of historic places of worship for wider community use. We're developing and delivering training for design professionals, students, support organisations, policymakers and communities involved in projects to improve and transform historic places of worship through a community-led process. The project is also supporting two PhD studentships.
